I’ve had 25 years of being in the fitness industry, so I get tons of questions daily. If you are trying to decide whether or not to hire a trainer, allow me to give you clarity. Hiring a trainer is an investment in your vitality. You are worth it! Fitness gives you quality of life that no amount of money can give you.
Here are my top 6 most frequently asked fitness questions. Hopefully they will help you make your decision.
- What is the difference between free weights and fitness machines?
- Which is better?
Free weights generally include barbells and dumbbells and are a true reflection of your strength. This is because they offer you no help when doing an exercise
Machines offer you a bit of support and help keep you stabilized during an exercise. Both offer benefits. I like the idea of using a combination but you can definitely do a fantastic routine at home by just using free weights.
- What are the main benefits of working with a trainer?
There are many benefits to working with a trainer (I know I’m biased) . I think the most important benefits are safety, effectiveness, accountability and efficiency. The bottom line is that you want to see results quickly and without wasting time. Don’t forget ACCOUNTABILITY.
- Is walking or running better for fat loss?
This is debatable. In my experience, I have found that walking and sprinting are both excellent for burning fat, not jogging.
- How long should I rest between workouts?
A trainer can help you with this one as it is different for each individual. When hiring a trainer, make sure you have a complete assessment. Make sure you let your trainer know what your goals are and the activities you enjoy doing.
- If I stop training, will my muscles turn to fat?
The answer is no, but allow me to explain. If you become inactive your caloric needs will be less. Consequently, you might put on body fat if you continue to eat the same amount of calories. Lower your calories and your body fat percentage will not increase.
