Are you someone who loves bread, but does not want the bloat after eating it?
Then Do This!
Let’s face it, life is too short to not enjoy bread. So what’s the secret to enjoying this light and airy taste bud miracle without the tummy troubles after?
I don’t think anyone will dispute the fact that one of life’s pleasures is freshly baked bread hot out of the oven. For me, it brings back many fond childhood memories of my Polish grandmother baking her sweet egg bread called Placek. I remember slathering this bread with loads of butter and honey. I’m sure this was one of the factors that contributed to my own childhood obesity. But, oh what a beautiful memory; I can taste it now!
Does comfort food bring back memories for you? Well maybe with this little trick, we can occasionally add bread back into our diets.
Raw honey is prized for containing significant amounts of plant amylase. Many think that this amylase comes from the bee, but it does not. It is actually a plant enzyme, which is concentrated in the pollen of flowers. So, what can this plant enzyme do for you?
It helps you predigest starchy foods like bread. The moment the honey and the bread come into contact, the honey enzyme starts the process of predigestion, meaning the food starts to breakdown before we eat it. This effect is even greater if you can wait before inhaling this sweet and luscious treat. If you can let the bread spread with honey stand at room temperature for 15 minutes before you eat it, your own digestive juices in your mouth, known as salivary amylases, will not be needed. This will help prevent our digestive systems from being over-worked, and thus helps us avoid gas and bloating.
So don’t be afraid to celebrate from time to time! Go ahead and eat your bread (just not too often).
